The Parks Maintenance (seasonal) staff is responsible for completing maintenance tasks in all Municipal parks and facilities based on seasonal operational requirements, including grass cutting, plant and lawn care, garbage/recycling collection, special event assistance, equipment operation, park amenities general repairs and maintenance; trails, sport fields, cemeteries, and waterfront maintenance.

Compensation and Work Term
$20.51 to $22.79 per hour
Compensation would be administered in accordance with the CUPE 749-02 Collective Agreement.
Approximately 6 months or as mutually agreed to extend. 40 hours per week.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma preferred.
  • Similar work experience including ability to perform physical labour outdoors for long periods of time.
  • Grounds maintenance equipment operation.
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in the general maintenance of parks and open spaces including but not limited to, trees, shrubs, hedges, gardens, signs, parking lots, watering and irrigation systems, beach, grass, trails and sport fields.
  • Effectively operate all equipment such as mower, loader, dump truck, tractor, and other equipment.
  • Assist in the maintenance and repair of facilities, equipment and playground structures.
  • Assist with special events set up and take down.
  • Ensure pick-up and proper disposal of garbage and recycling.
  • Complete inspection reports, such as vehicles, equipment, and grounds.
  • Assist in the Facilities and Cemeteries maintenance as required.
  • Respond in a professional and respectful manner to public inquiry and concerns and direct appropriately.
  • Adhere to high standards of ethical behaviour and demonstrate their understanding that their personal actions impact the public’s perception of the Municipality.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Parks or designate.
Skills and Experience
  • Verbal communication skills including courtesy, tact and explanation.
  • Adaptable, hard-working and co-operative work skills.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Independent worker with demonstrated initiative.
Other
  • Valid and satisfactory ‘G’ license work on evenings and weekends.
  • Valid and satisfactory Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check.
  • Regular work outdoors with exposure to extreme weather conditions.
  • Heavy physical labour involving lifting, pushing and pulling of weight up to and sometimes over 40Kg.
  • Regular operation of machinery involving noise, fumes and exposure to vehicle fluids.
  • May require being on-call and performing work on evenings and weekends.
