The Water Summer Student is responsible for assisting departmental staff in a variety of tasks in the performance of their responsibilities.
Compensation and Work Term
$17.85 per hour
May to August, 40 hours per week

- High school diploma or currently enrolled in High school or post-secondary education.
- Similar work experience preferred, including ability to perform physical labour outdoors for long periods of time.
- Valid and satisfactory ‘G’ license.
- Valid and satisfactory Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check.
- Assist employees with duties involving physical labour such as, but not limited to, cutting of grass, weed eating, fire hydrant painting, cutting and trimming trees, preparing the ground and seeding grass, debris and garbage pick-up, loading and unloading vehicles, digging/shoveling, raking, moving materials and related activities.
- Assist employees with duties involving physical labour related to operation and maintenance of the Municipalities Water related assets such as, but not limited to Water Treatment Plant, Pumping Stations, Water Distribution System infrastructure and related activities
- Assist employees with duties involving physical labour related to maintenance and repair of Municipalities non-Water related assets such as, but not limited to, bridge and sidewalk repair, street patching, road repair, jack-hammering, pot hole filling and related activities.
- Assist as required with administrative tasks which may include filing, cataloguing, sorting, data entry and related office work.
- Adhere to high standards of ethical behaviour and demonstrate their understanding that their personal actions impact the public’s perception of the Municipality; and
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Water or designate.
- Adaptable, hard-working and co-operative work skills.
- Detail oriented
- Independent worker with demonstrated initiative.
- Valid and satisfactory ‘G’ license.
- Valid and satisfactory Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check.
- Regular work outdoors with exposure to extreme weather conditions.
- Heavy physical labour involving lifting, pushing and pulling of weight up to and sometimes over 40Kg.
