The Day Camp Senior Team Leader is responsible to provide guidance and supervision to the staff in their planning, delivery and supervision of Day Camp participants; ensures high quality lessons and programs are being delivered in compliance with HIGH FIVE® standards, the Health and Safety Regulations; and Municipal Policies and procedures.

Compensation and Work Term

$18.17 to $19.72 per hour
May to August

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in the field of recreation, social services, childcare or equivalent preferred.
  • Standard First Aid, CPR “C” with AED or willing to obtain.
  • Experience working with children and youth.
  • Previous experience with the day camp program preferred.
  • HIGH FIVE ®: Principles of Healthy Child Development or willing to obtain.
  • Valid and satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Able to commit to the full term of employment and be available Monday to Friday From 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Valid and Satisfactory G2 or G drivers license and access to only vehicle preferred. 
Responsibilities
  • Oversee lesson plans for all of camp including specialty camps, centered around a theme or activity; research any themes that may be unfamiliar to develop knowledge base and enhance material for lesson plans; implement programs, organize and supervise all activities.
  • Lead the Summer Day Camp Staff in a positive and professional manner in the delivery of the programs and supervision of the participants, ensuring the safety of all participants.
  • Role model enthusiasm, camp activities and behaviour management techniques and active supervision as well as creating an inclusive environment for all campers, staff and volunteers.
  • Create an educational, safe and inviting experience for all participants; incorporate the principles of HIGH FIVE ® regarding healthy child development, and encouraging staff to be aware of and work with special needs of participants and report any difficult behaviour to the Recreation Program Coordinator .
  • Comply with the Child Care Legislation and Child Abuse Policies.
  • Ensure Summer Day Camp Staff and volunteers, develop and maintain positive relationships with participants and that staff are engaged and interacting with participants at all times.
  • Assist in the guidance and supervision provided to Day Camp staff and Volunteers.
  • Assist the Recreation Program Coordinator with the evaluation of staff, and volunteers.
  • Assist with scheduling of Summer Day Camp staff, lunch breaks and ensuring ratio’s and age requirements are met.
  • Assist with  social media posts, camp newsletter and marketing of the day camp program.
  • Act as the liaison between the parent, child, Summer Day Camp Staff and the Recreation Program Coordinator including weekly phone calls to parents and guardians.
  • Resolve operational conflicts in a swift and professional manner, taking into consideration operations, procedures and customer service standards.
  • Advise the Recreation Program Coordinator of any problems related to equipment, programs or public inquiries. Ensure equipment is available for camp at the proper locations.
  • Take the lead with the development and the facilitation of summer staff training ensuring all compliance issues and regulations are covered including updating the camp manual.
  • Organize and implement special events and guest speakers in collaboration with day camp staff and the Recreation Program Coordinator
  • Organize, order, pickup and deliver hot lunches, organizing cash utilizing cash handling procedures.
  • Monitor off site activities including specialty camps and trips, completing regular checks and ensuring safety, acting as the lead in emergency situations and communicating with transportation when needed.
  • Adhere to high standards of ethical behaviour and demonstrate their understanding that their personal actions impact the public’s perception of the Municipality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Recreation Program Coordinator or designate.
