Parks/Cemeteries Summer Student - Closing March 23, 2026
The Parks Summer Student is responsible for completing maintenance tasks in Municipal parks and facilities or cemeteries within the operating season including: turf maintenance (cutting, trimming and lawn care); horticulture (planting, trimming, watering and weeding); garbage/recycling collection; special event assistance; equipment operation, general repairs and maintenance; maintenance of recreational trails, sport fields, and cemeteries.
Compensation and Work Term
$17.85 - $19.34 per hour

- High school diploma or currently enrolled in post-secondary education
- Similar work experience preferred, including ability to perform physical labour outdoors for long periods of time.
- Grounds maintenance equipment operation preferred.
- Valid and satisfactory ‘G’ license.
- Valid and satisfactory Police Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
- Current First Aid/CPR an asset.
- Assist in the general maintenance of parks and open spaces including, but not limited to, trees, shrubs, hedges, gardens, signs, parking lots, watering and irrigation systems, beach, grass, trails, sport fields and cemeteries.
- Effectively operate all small and large equipment, municipal vehicles etc.
- Assist in the maintenance and repair of facilities, equipment and playground structures.
- Assist with special events set up and take down of event requirements.
- Ensure pick-up and proper disposal of garbage and recycling.
- Respond in a professional and respectful manner to public inquiry and concerns and shall direct appropriately.
- Adhere to high standards of ethical behaviour and demonstrate his/her understanding that his/her personal actions impact the public’s perception of the Municipality; and
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Parks or designate.
- Verbal communication skills including courtesy, tact and explanation.
- Adaptable, hard-working and co-operative work skills.
- Detail oriented
- Independent worker with demonstrated initiative.
- Valid and satisfactory ‘G’ license.
- Valid and satisfactory Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check.
- Regular work outdoors with exposure to extreme weather conditions.
- Heavy physical labour involving lifting, pushing and pulling of weight up to and sometimes over 30Kg.
- Regular operation of machinery involving noise, fumes and exposure to vehicle fluids.
