The PHAI (Port Hope Area Initiative) Community Liaison within the Environmental Services Division is responsible for creating and maintaining positive relationships between the PHAI, the Municipality and the Community.  Through effective communication, community outreach, and engagement, the Community Liaison will strive to ensure that the Municipality is aware of community needs, and that the Municipality and its residents are informed about the activities, policies, and plans of the PHAI.  The Community Liaison will assist the public in obtaining information from the appropriate authorities for the Project.  The Community Liaison will coordinate with all Municipal staff and will also provide administrative support to the Director, Environmental Services.

Compensation:
35 hours per week; 54,589 - 63,862 per annum

 Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree/college diploma in related fields, such as communications, public relations, or facilitation.
  • 2+ years of experience in community engagement, outreach, communications, facilitation or related field.​​​​​​
  • Experience in an administrative support position, preferably for Senior Management. PHAI related experience considered an asset.  
Responsibilities:
  • Communicate regularly with the community to provide updates on project progress, successes, and challenges
  • Create, in consultation with the PHAI, communication materials including key messaging, FAQ’S, presentations, notices, advertisements, and information guides.  Work closely with communications team provide updates to the website and social media.
  • Act as the first point of contact for community members with respect to matters of the PHAI and facilitate meetings between the residents and appropriate PHAI and/or Municipal staff where required.
  • Identify and monitor issues and needs of the community and propose ways the Municipality can support its residents with respect to the Port Hope area Initiative.
  • Develop and expand community outreach efforts with community members through various engagement opportunities both in person and online
  • Attend meetings with the Director as required and provide support services as directed by the Director, including but not limited to minute taking.
  • Assist with implementing decisions and policies of the Environmental Remediation division and Council; maintain knowledge of the PHAI activities, track the status and provide input regarding the project.
  • Provide standard technical knowledge of the PHAI to municipal staff and residents where required. Translating technical/scientific concepts into plain language.
  • Research, write or edit reports, presentations, amendments, and various correspondence, independently as requested.
  • Adhere to data collection and management procedures to prepare, collect, record and file documents and email correspondence for the Environmental Services department in accordance with the Records Management Policy/filing system
  • Research the internet, municipal records and external resources for new and / or applicable policies, processes, for Director’s consideration.
  • Coordinate travel requirements, schedules and meetings for the Director and as required for Environmental Remediation Staff.
  • Respond to inquiries via e-mail, telephone or in person, being mindful of confidentiality and political sensitivity. Where necessary, direct the inquiry to the appropriate individual.
  • Ensure the confidentiality of all information in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA).
  • Adhere to the highest standards of ethical behavior and demonstrate their understanding that their personal actions impact the public’s perception of the Municipality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director or his/her designate.
